Marie
[Female] [24] [European]
Sally
[Female] [8] [NZ European]
Jonathan
[Male] [36-40] [NZ European]
Jonathan is a very warm, caring guy, with an undeniably Kiwi bloke persona. He is comical in his lateness in the mornings, and is not the best at tying his tie, but he is a provider and is naturally open-minded and a hard-worker. He commutes to just outside the city every day, working in a college as a social studies teacher to years 9 and 10. He is naturally empathetic, and a good communicator. He loves his family dearly but over the years has noticed how his wife (Alicia) has become a bit distant. On weekends he wears his jeans and casual shirts with his sleeves rolled up, and often likes to bake and get up to mischief with Sally.
I am keen to audition a variety of guys, with no major physical specifics necessary. I did originally see him as having longish brown hair, a bit of facial hair, and around 5'10 - 6ft tall. However I am open to seeing what types of people walk through the door and see what type of take they have of Jonathan given the character description/type.

Alicia
[Female] [36-40] [NZ European]
To look at, Alicia is a mixture of professionalism, and creative messiness. I see her as having long hair, engaging and expressive face, and between 5"7 and 5"9.
Alicia is the manager of a handmade candle and craft business, and often comes home with dried wax on her clothes. She is an intriguing woman who can often let her misguided emotions get the better of her. With her family, since the arrival of Marie she has become quite brash and sometimes hard to get along with, yet with her candles she is the most gentle and affectionate lady.
However Alicia is and always has been a workaholic, often bringing a lot home with her and spending more time on it than being involved in family life. Seeing Marie fill her shoes quicker and more closely than expected, is hard for her to take in and leads her to feel a bit jealous and uncertain of her role in the family. As Marie's behaviour slowly leads to the revelation of her loss, Alicia is moved into a place where she must rediscover what it means to be a mother, and actually realise what she has around her.

Katya
[Female] [22-24] [French]
Katya is a French girl living close by to Marie, whom Marie has known for a couple of years back in Europe. Katya is an Au Pair for a family with twin 5 year old boys, so her life is quite hectic, however due to her very confident and forward nature, she doesn't seem to struggle. She is naturally quite forthright and straight-down-the-line, but caring. She is only featured in one scene in the script - but her purpose is to encourage Marie into opening up a bit and reassuring her that it's still early days. She is Marie's little escape, her go-to when she wants some time out or just to hang out with.
She between 5'6 and 5'8, is brunette and has curly hair. She must have a naturally friendly face, but carry herself confidently.
Katya is the verbalization of the metaphors and symbolism in this film - meaning that she speaks more openly to the deeper issues facing Marie, and how she should go about dealing with them. She is a contrast to Marie's timidness and fearful manner, and her character is a tool to show a different side to Marie to give her more of a kick to make changes in her own life.
